Most of the service business owners I work with are in Hampshire, from Southampton and Portsmouth to Winchester and the New Forest. What holds them back is rarely local: growth stalls, the owner becomes the bottleneck, follow-up slips and the numbers aren't clear. What Hampshire does have is a strong network of business groups, so you don't have to fix it on your own.
Who this is for
Owners of established owner-led service businesses turning over six to seven figures, usually with a small team. The business works, but growth has stalled, and the owner needs structure, a plan and someone to hold them to it.
What holds Hampshire service businesses back
The same things I see everywhere:
- Growth has stalled. You're working hard but the numbers have flattened. See why service businesses stall.
- Everything depends on you. You're stuck working in the business, not on it. See how to find 90 minutes a day.
- Leads slip through the net. Enquiries aren't answered quickly or followed up. See how to follow up with leads.
- The numbers aren't clear. Decisions are made on gut feel. See the five numbers every owner should know.
- Marketing isn't joined up. Lots of activity, no system. See why your marketing isn't working.
Where to find support locally
Hampshire has plenty of good places to meet other owners and learn from them. These are the ones I'm involved with:
- peer2peer Winchester. I chair this peer advisory board for business owners.
- Federation of Small Businesses (FSB). I've spoken for the FSB three times, including to a Southampton group and at a countywide Hampshire event.
- Solent Growth Partnership. I've spoken there three times.
- Entrepreneurs Circle. I'm a certified coach with Entrepreneurs Circle.
- Chambers of commerce and networking groups. Most towns have them, and they're a good way to meet people who get it. I speak free of charge for business networks and chambers of commerce: see speaking.
For why this matters, see why every business owner needs a peer group.
